DENVER - A traveling sex trade show drew long lines to get in and long lines at exhibits in the Colorado Convention Center during the weekend.  The second stop for "The Sex and So Much More Show" seemed to draw as many women as men. Event coordinator Kari Calder said attendance was likely to top that of the first stop, Minneapolis, where 15,000 showed up.

"People in Denver in general seem more open-minded," she said.

Not everyone welcomed the show. State Rep. Jim Welker, R-Loveland, sent a letter Friday to the center management opposing the exhibition.

"It is unacceptable for Colorado to become a culture that exposes impure behavior to our children without batting an eye," he said in a statement. Welker said that since the center was financed in part by taxpayers' money it should be sensitive to the community in its selection of shows.

Eight other GOP lawmakers signed the letter.

Convention Center manager John Adams had not seen the letter and had no comment late Friday, said his assistant Erin Knight.

Among other attractions, two porn stars were big draws at the show.

John Boren, 24, stood in line to see porn star Jenna Jameson. "I think it will be worth the picture, worth the autograph," he said.

Boren and his buddies had already gotten an autograph and a photo with Ron Jeremy, a pornography legend.

The show was a great opportunity for Front Range adult businesses to strut their stuff.

"I'm excited that it's here. We want to let people know that they have a sex-positive boutique around," says Elizabeth Hauptman, 37, the owner, along with her husband, of Hysteria, a "locally owned, female positive, feminist sex shop."

Another Politican Attacks Sex Trade

I chose the above story not because it was the biggest news of the week, but because it angered me.  We have another public official attacking the sex industry.

I have attended many of these trade shows throughout the world, their popularity and numbers are on the rise.  Each show is carefully and painstakingly organized to give consumers what they want.  No minors are permitted to enter the facility, and I have never heard of anyone being forced to go to these shows.  I have seen people from every walk of life attending including factory workers, housewives, couples, doctors, lawyers, accountants, famous actors, singers, rap stars, athletes, the list goes on and on.  I have also spoken to many people and have asked why they attend these shows.  Some people attend for the curiosity factor, some want to meet a famous Porn Star, others are looking for deals on sex toys, you get the point.  Only in North America do we see an outcry from politicians!

So this ass-clown Jim Welker seems to think that just because the Colorado Convention centre is publicly funded that they should not hold an adult related show?  What exactly is wrong with it?  Is it better for the convention centre to sit empty?  My bigger question is what is the real reason behind all of this?  Well it is my belief that Welker, like most other politicians, is looking to gain some free publicity and get some of the religious zealots votes to swing his way.  It is the easy thing for these politicians to do, attack the sex industry in one form or another.  All of them do it – from the local city publicly elected official all the way up to the Congress.  I truly think that 99% of these people really do not have a problem with the sex trade.  I stand behind them 100% when it comes to fighting the illegal activities some of the very, very few partake in.  I get angry however, when I see clowns like Welker attacking this show.  It is absolutely harmless and in fact adds some energy and vibrancy to the city!  Does he not have anything better to do?  Are there no pressing issues he faces?  I am sure if someone does some digging, there are some skeletons in his closet.  People in glass houses should not throw stones.

I think it is time for people to tell these politicians that we do not stand for this type of behavior.  How can we do this?  There are many ways.  Start by writing and sending them letters voicing your displeasure; get your friends who agree with you to do the same.  When constructing these letters, make a valid point and do not make it vulgar or rude.  If you use foul language in your letters, they will just be dismissed and these idiots will use them as justification of their argument.  You can also start petitions, but the most effective way of making a difference is at the voting station.  This is truly what is important to these politicians.  They want to be elected, they want the power, and they want the success and all the benefits of being elected to office.  I think it is time we start making a difference. 

We can make a difference by not only letting our voices be heard to these politicians but also by supporting the shows in your area.  Attend them, bring your friends, let the show know what you want to see, support the vendors, it is all for our own benefit. How do you think we can make a difference. I say, I almost agree with you 100%. but you over looked one small fact. All the people in these so called Celebrity tapes are all "B listers"...If the tape was say Beckham and Posh, Bam! you would have another hit. Or Brad and Angelina, instant smash.

I think the desire to peek into a stars world is still huge, but the opportunity to look into a True Stars private life too damn tempting. Pam and Tommy worked because they were the first. Now only a true mega star will recapture what was first felt way back in 99 with Pam and Tommy.

Chyna, Collin, Vince, Paris and now Kid Rock, the need to get back into the spot light is a necessity to the so called Celebrity. Unfortunately these people’s careers ended long before the tapes came out. If we took a Star on the rise and allowed the public to peek into their bedrooms it is and always will be a gold mine.
